Why I Built This
I never met either of my grandfathers. By the time I really wanted to know my grandmothers, to ask them about their lives, their wisdom, their stories, they were gone.
Growing up in a Telugu-speaking immigrant family, I saw a pattern: the awkwardness that distance and language create, especially for college students like me who want deeper connections with family but don't know how to bridge that gap.
Smara is my answer to this. It is not just about preserving the past. It is about helping you stay present with the people who matter most. A memory companion that makes it easy to capture your own journey, preserve family stories, break through awkwardness, and bond across any distance.
Currently pursuing my M.S. in Computer Science at USC (B.S. 2024, M.S. expected Dec 2025), building Smara to ensure no one else loses their family's stories the way I did.
